Oceanside Photography Society

Always Something To Learn

The club membership consists of over 80 photographers from novice to professional and everything in between. Our members live, work and play in a photographer’s paradise, the east coast of Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

We meet on the First Wednesday of the month in Qualicum Beach at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. During the two hour and Fifteen minute meeting we feature a guest speaker discussing a variety of photographic subjects. We present slide shows from club members’ personal files and also submissions from the previous month’s Favourites, Field Trips and Monthly Activities. We also have a critique of the top voted images from the Activities and a great time socializing during a coffee break. Twice a year, members may enter a six minute “Slide Show” featuring their images accompanied with music.

We have a dedicated education meeting that meets on the Third Wednesday of the month. Experienced individuals from our club lead the group through hands on, practical exercises. Members bring their cameras and tripods to work on the theme offered.

We offer a number of SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIG’S) to all of our members. These groups fluctuate at times depending on the interests of the group. These SIG’S operate during the Education Night as well as other times during the month as determined by the SIG members. Any member with a Special Interest can organize and lead a group.

Field trips are organized once a month to various locations, both indoors or outdoors, throughout the year. These provide great opportunities for learning from others or sharing your knowledge, no matter what your photographic skill level may be.

The goal of the club is to promote learning, sharing and the enjoyment of photography in a convivial atmosphere. We welcome new members no matter if they are beginners or more experienced photographers. We encourage all members to share their photographic knowledge with each other. This includes image capture, the use of camera equipment and post processing.

We have a Coffee Klatch twice monthly where members drop in to socialize and get to know each other better. We meet at upstairs at Quality Foods in Parksville. Discussions about photography are often on the menu.

Membership is $50 per person per year and we have a family rate of $75 for two people. Membership is open to anyone interested in photography. New members can also purchase a personalized name badge for an additional $14.00. The membership fee is prorated between January and April. Membership renewal fees may be paid by e-transfer to treasure.opc@gmail.com By joining our club, each member also becomes a member of CAPA at no additional cost.

Guests are allowed to come to two meetings at no charge; after which they must pay a membership fee in order to continue attending. Our members are encouraged to bring visitors to our meetings. Members are required to sign both a membership form and our liability waiver (waiver pdf0001) before participating in any club activities.
