londonOur speaker this month is Steve Morin from London Drugs.  Steve is an Assistant Manager in the Photo Department and will be talking about the principles of Lighting and Flash.  Steve would like to get feedback so bring questions about flash techniques.

After the club business is over we will see the results of the Faces assignment and the slideshow from the Kidsfest beach festival

  • encounters while working with wildlife,
  • pointers-access,
  • research,
  • cautions and things to consider

Snap-shots 4H Photography CLub

snapsThis is the first exhibit of the 4H Snap-shots.  This group of very active members from ages 9 to 18 are pleased to exhibit their work in the Nemeth Gallery from November 4th through the 28th.

We have sponsored the annual 4H photo competition and our members have been out to their meetings to speak on occasion.

mike_yipWe are pleased to start the year with a highly regarded wildlife / bird photographer, Mike Yip.  Mike has published several books on Vancouver Island birds. After the business portion of the meeting, we will see a slideshow of our field trip to the Kathok Temple and a slideshow with the results of our Christmas assignment.

Shortly, we will be asking members to come forward and to participate in some of the management positions of the club or to help as an assistant.

cia1Our speaker for this month is Ernst Vegt.  Ernst has spent +40 years in the graphic arts field specializing in colour reproduction.  He has taught colour reproduction at VCC, BCIT, and Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. His customers include printing companies, book publishers, art galleries, giclée printers, artists, photo-labs, advertising agencies and signage companies.

Following the business portion of the meeting we will have the slideshow from the Macro / Close Up assignment and the field trip to the Lantern Festival

Wolf-Low-ResOur speaker for this meeting is from eastern Ontario and is visiting the area for the Brant activities. Ted Krug is a well known wild life and environmental photographer from Parry Sound Ontario. He has traveled around the world with his photography. Ted will be speaking about his adventures and mis-adventures. He will take you on a trip from one polar area to another and visit places and events in between where he has had a host of learning experiences from my subjects, the environment and his equipment.

We will also see the results of the Faces and Places assignment and the slideshow of our field trip to Robert Held glass works.

johncOur own John Critchley, our new Education Director is our speaker for this month.  John has a number of ideas for introducing an education plan for our members.  There will be a number of new thoughts to help us all become better photographers.

astrophotoOur speakers for our July meeting are two professional award winning photographers, Chris Boar and Tony Puerzer who are also enthusiastic amateur astronomers!   They are the President and Vice President of the Nanaimo Astronomy Society.  The topic for the evening will be ‘Astrophotography…it’s easier than you think…sometimes’

In this presentation Chris and Tony talk about the different types of astrophotography, what type of equipment is needed, and demonstrate what is possible with just a camera and a tripod. If its a clear night there will be an opportunity for some nighttime viewing for club members  through a telescope post meeting.

Chris is owner of CB Photography and specializes in weddings.  Tony operates Bright Idea Photography and handles a wide range of professional subjects.

Following the business portion of the meeting, there will be one slideshow from the Raptor Centre field trip.

Our speaker for our September meeting is Kerry Dawson from Comox.  Kerry is a professional educator and has taught many members of the Comox club on slideshow techniques.  We will be looking for our members to prepare shows for the November meeting so this is a wonderful opportunity.

Following the club business, we will have slideshows from last month’s canceled meeting and also from the current period.  It will be a busy evening.
