October Meeting – Slideshow Night
Oct 5 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

slideshownightSlideshow Night – Our October meeting is going to be quite exciting with slideshows from many of our members.  Summer is over and our members have traveled and will be sharing their memories.  The list is not yet complete, however, we are expecting shows from Ken Meisner, Shelley Harynuk, Alan Smith, Wayne Buhr, Roy Watts, Inge McDonald, Ed Dunnett, Jack Harynuk and there’s more to come.

Before the show gets going, we’ll get the club business out of the way, then see the results of the Moving Water assignment, the field trip to Morningstar Farm and our favourite shots from September.

There will be coffee and tea at $1 but bring your own popcorn!

October Field Trip
Oct 16 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

NOTE: This field trip now has the Old Country Market’s management approval to photograph inside the market in addition to the open areas.  The question was raised during the general meeting 5 October.

October’s trip is to the Old Country Market in Coombs (Goats on the Roof).   Lunch to follow will be at The Cuckoo Restaurant which is on site.

To extend our educational program which John Critchley worked very hard to produce and deliver, apply some of those compositional techniques to the images created during the field trip.  This is not a contest but an opportunity to explore and expand our photographic skills. These included but not limited to:

  • Composing with colour
  • Composing with light
  • Uses of horizontal or vertical planes
  • Uses of horizontal or vertical lines
  • Leading Lines
  • Use of negative space
  • Diagonal rules
  • Rule of Thirds or breaking the rule
  • Simplicity
  • Filling the Frame
  • Use of a different perspective

Demonstrate these techniques by applying a different and single technique to each of the 6 images you submit from your field trip photos.  Send a maximum of 6 photos to fieldtrip.opc@gmail.com.  Keep in mind the club’s size limitation for each image.

Have fun and see you Sunday 16 October.

November Meeting – Eiko Jones
Nov 7 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

ejonesOur November meeting has moved to a different date for this month. We are very pleased to have Eiko Jones come and speak to us about his photography. The topic is Watershed Awareness – one photo at a time.

At times he is overwhelmed by the beauty of the world around us. He is passionate about sharing this Pacific Northwest environment with everyone. Through artistic and dramatic imagery, he endeavours to offer people a glance of that world, whether they live in a big city condo, or have no ability to experience the world below or out in nature. His work is all about drawing attention to the entire environment and watersheds, from the mountaintops all the way down, and into our vast, but fragile oceans.

Coffee service will be available so bring your loonie.
