What we have going on…
This month we’re enjoying the views and paths around Cameron Lake and Cathedral Grove. This is an area that is always exciting for photographers and visitors to the Island
Lunch will be back at Cuckoo’s at the Old Country Market in Coombs, the goats may still be on the roof. Here’s a link to the restaurant.
We had such a great time at Art Knapp in Courtenay that we’re going back again and we’ve timed it to coincide with all their new Christmas inventory.
Our December assignment is Christmas so it’s a great opportunity to hunt out some great photos.
If you plan on attending the lunch at The Old House please let Sally know.
This month we are going to the Kathok Centre Buddhist Temple in Errington on Grafton Rd. Follow these signs to get there:
The centre is charity that provides considerable assistance to needy individuals in the community. The centre would welcome any donations that we can make personally.
Shelley is our coordinator for this trip. Please contact her at the email above to let her know if you are attending the lunch.
The location, 95 Renz Road, is just past Winchelsea School, (going towards Church Rd.) On the opposite side of the street. You will pass what looks like fields, and then see a large, double wrought iron gate. There is an intercom on the left side of the gate. Please use the intercom to get in to the property. Once you are in, the gate will close itself, drive up to the greenhouses,(the right fork in the lane), and please wait outside the greenhouses until we have all assembled. We will then all enter the greenhouse together–orchids don’t like cold air!
We will have lunch at the Quality Resort, Bayside. Please let me know if you are coming, so that I can make a reservation.
See you on Sunday!
Sally
There are day long festivities to celebrate the lunar new year in Cumberland. This is the Year of the Sheep. Starting at 10:00 there are displays at the Recreational Centre. About 6:00, there is a ‘Parade of Light’ and that will be followed by the release of lanterns and a fireworks show.
If you plan on going, you might want to think about making carpool arrangements with other members, especially if you are staying after dark.
This month we are going to Robert Held’s Glass Studio. Robert is an award winning glass blower. He uses techniques that date back as long ago as 2000 B.C. however, his collections range from classic to contemporary. Some works are inspired by the paintings of famous artists such as Monet and Klimt, while others take inspiration from photographers and even interior designers.
This is a great opportunity for macro or close up shots, or for the March assignment ‘All That Glistens’.
Lunch location to be determined.
Our field trip this month is to Milner Gardens in Qualicum. We’ll meet at 10 and walk or take the cart to the gardens. Many of the spring blooms are out and photography should be wonderful.
Click on the photo to go to Milner’s web site.
Lunch will be at the tea room at the Gardens, please let Sally know if you plan on participating in the lunch.
This month’s field trip is back to see the raptors near Duncan. Click on the photo to get to their site. There are demonstrations and naturalists to answer all your questions.
Please contact Sally – assignments.opc@gmail.com so she will have an idea of how many are coming. We will convene at the Tim Hortons at Drinkwater Road across from the Forest Discovery Centre about noon and head back to the Raptor Centre for 1:00.
Here are a few links on photographing birds in flight
The Snowbirds are NOT coming to the Qualicum Beach Air Show, however, mark your calendar for their August 15th appearance at the Comox Air Show . We do have an entertaining day at our own airport and check the links below to see the planned activities. Lunch will be decided before the day so check with Sally for any additional details.
