What we have going on…
Got a favourite shot or two that you’ve taken this year? We are taking two of your favourites and putting them into a slideshow for our December meeting. The images have to be sent in by November 15th
Select two of your favourite images, attach them to your message and send them to :
bestof2014@
Please keep the sizes within the normal ranges for assignments (1600 X 1200)
We had a great trip to the Homolca territory and saw over two dozen grizzlies. We were also treated to a great show by Pacific white sided dolphins on our boat trips.
Brad Powell is preparing a slideshow and would like to receive up to 5 of your shots for the show. Please send them to Brad – brad@reliabledocumentservices.com and include Bear Trip Photos in the subject. Send them to Brad by Nov 15th so that we can see the show at our December meeting.
It’s that time of year and you’ll have to submit your best nature shot by November 4th. The rules have changed slightly for this year, there are 8 images per club, one per photographer. Here is a link to the rules or click on the owl. The categories are:
- – Birds
- – Mammals
- – General (not 1 or 2)
Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image. An assignment is set up in our member database.
Quick Note: I spoke with a fellow who has done a lot of judging for some comments. He said that when he has several hundred shots to look at and it’s a limited time period, there really isn’t time to study the shots. Within a second or two he has to make a decision so the image has to have impact, sharpness and clarity of purpose to get any extra consideration.
Lions Gate Camera Club of Vancouver, British Columbia
is pleased to invite photography clubs in British Columbia and The Yukon to enter our eighth annual competition.
Celebration of Nature Photography 2014
The theme for this annual competition is nature in all of its splendid diversity. Images must be free of any signs of man’s impact and must not include any domestic animals or cultivated plants.
All images submitted will be judged by renowned Canadian nature photographers who are completely independent of Lions Gate Camera Club.
This is a unique opportunity for the photography produced by your members to be judged by some of the best nature photographers in Canada.
Got a favourite song and photo?… Maybe one will get everyone’s attention.
Our November speaker is Steve Williamson, a well known award winning wildlife photographer. Steve will show us some of his amazing photos and will speak about –
- encounters while working with wildlife,
- pointers-access,
- research,
- cautions and things to consider

We had such a great time at Art Knapp in Courtenay that we’re going back again and we’ve timed it to coincide with all their new Christmas inventory.
Our December assignment is Christmas so it’s a great opportunity to hunt out some great photos.
If you plan on attending the lunch at The Old House please let Sally know.
Arts Cafe Exhibition at 147 Harrison Avenue, Parksville, November 17 through December 31st. (Arts Cafe hours are Monday – Friday from 9 to 4.) Ten members of the OPC are exhibiting twenty-five (25) photographs of varying sizes at this pre-holiday show.
Membership of OPC consists of over one hundred photographers from novice to professional.
This is a reminder to vote for the current assignment. Voting usually starts on the 21st of the month and continues until the 28th of the month. Vote in the member database and check the dates for the specific assignment.
Enjoy the holiday season but first find some great photos to shar.
This month is our Christmas social evening. We do not have a speaker and will have a short business review followed by slideshows of the field trip to Art Knapp in Courtenay, the Song Titles assignment and a special slideshow from Brad Powell on the club’s grizzly bear outing.
This will be followed by a social and everyone is encouraged to bring some appies or dessert items. Be certain to take home any of your leftovers.
