Located on the East Coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. With beautiful views, Deep Bay Harbour is convenient to boaters traveling Georgia Straight, the Gulf Islands, and Baynes Sound, or on their way to and from Desolation Sound and points north. It is home to a commercial fishing and aquaculture fleet, and a large number of pleasure craft.
Note: There are plenty of opportunities for wildlife, seascapes and landscapes photography. Check out the wildlife at the end of the spit or wander the docks or just savour the scenery. The lunch restaurant is located on site which mean NO extra driving.
Special: Lorene has promised us a treat and great opportunity for wildlife photographers. Can’t say what it is but be their for the experience.
Lunch: Is at the Ship & Shore restaurant on the Deep Bay Marina 12:00. The reservation is for inside the restaurant, so if its hot, or windy or raining (heaven forbid) we’ll be comfortable.
Your field trip photos are now uploaded to the website using the upload in the members database. Up to 5 images can be uploaded.
Rosewall Creek Provincial Park is south of Fanny Bay consist of a river, and old growth trees covered in beautiful mosses which create many opportunities for great landscapes. The trails are easy to walk in a circular route around the parking lot. Parking and toilets are available on-site. Link to map of park . The park is exactly 27 km north of Parksville and 27 km south of Courtenay on Highway 19A (scenic coast road). If you are taking the upper highway then use the deep bay turn and then left onto the old island highway and it is less than 2km.
Lunch will be at the Fanny Bay Inn, a short drive up the coast towards Courtenay, at 12:00 noon.
Send a maximum of 5 photos to, Members Data Base, Assignments, Field Trips. Keep in mind the club’s size limitation for each image
We are participating again this year and we’re taking a slightly different approach. You’ll be able to upload 3 images in any of the categories. Also, voting will be open until early November and you will be permitted to vote for your own image. Since only one image per member may be submitted, there will be some additional judging to choose the top 8 images.
As a club we did well in 2016 and placed third in mammals. We’ll try to do better this year.
The categories are:
- – Birds
- – Mammals
- – General (not 1 or 2)
Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image. Images have a maximum width of 1400 pixels and maximum height of 1050 pixels. Images have to be uploaded by October 21st.
