General Meeting
Mar 6 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

ArrowsmithOur general meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. We normally conduct the club’s business, then review the slideshows from the previous month’s assignment, field trip and favourite shot of the month. The last half of the meeting is dedicated to having a speaker come and make a presentation or discuss some aspects of their photography

March Meeting
Mar 7 @ 3:00 am – 5:00 am

bj1Boomer Jerritt is returning to talk to us about Urban Landscape and possibly toss in a few other details. Many of our members still talk about the wonderful presentation he did on night photography two years ago. You should visit his website at Strathcona Photography

We will also present the results of the architecture assignment and of our field trip to Mt. Washington.

A follow-up from Boomer was received with photos from his presentation. He mentioned the four points that he considers before hitting the shutter.

  1. What am I photographing? Slows me down to think
  2. How am I using effective Visual Design to communicate my message?
  3. What are my technical considerations and am I using them to my best advantage?
  4. What have I screwed up?

March Fieldtrip – Nanaimo Seawall
Mar 17 @ 10:00 am – 1:30 pm

seawallNanaimo seawall — a pedestrian walkway that winds along the waterfront from Cameron Island to the Nanaimo Yacht Club. Visitors especially enjoy the section of the seawall near the Bastion, where craft shops and restaurants dot the path.
The path continues to Swy-a-lana lagoon, and Maffeo-Sutton Park (behind the Civic Arena). It then continues along the water front and crosses over the Millstone River. A very pleasant walk any time of the year. Especially nice in the evenings of summer.

April Assignment – Night
Apr 1 @ 6:00 am

nightNight photography refers to photographs taken outdoors between dusk and dawn. Night photographers generally have a choice between using artificial light and using a long exposure, exposing the scene for seconds, minutes, and even hours in order to give the film or digital sensor enough time to capture a usable image. With the progress of high-speed films, higher-sensitivity digital image sensors, wide-aperture lenses, and the ever-greater power of urban lights, night photography is increasingly possible using available light.

April Meeting @ Qualicum Beach Civic Centre

This month we’re featuring slideshows and brief presentations from our own members.  We have a number of great photographers and this should be an exciting event.  If you would like to show some of your stuff, send a note to Shelley and she will fill in the details.  We can also help if you’d like some assistance with building your slideshow.

Also, this is our last session before the Annual General Meeting and we’re always welcoming fresh ideas and new faces to the management group.  Our President and Vice President will be available to answer any questions about duties and responsibilities.

The results of our White assignment will be presented along with a slideshow of our fieldtrip to the Nanaimo seawall.
