Following the break and the club’s business review, we will have the slideshow for our field trip to Paramount Orchids and our assignment of Frost / Icing.

Our speaker for this month is Ernst Vegt.  Ernst has spent +40 years in the graphic arts field specializing in colour reproduction.  He has taught colour reproduction at VCC, BCIT, and Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. His customers include printing companies, book publishers, art galleries, giclée printers, artists, photo-labs, advertising agencies and signage companies.

Following the business portion of the meeting we will have the slideshow from the Macro / Close Up assignment and the field trip to the Lantern Festival

Our speaker for this meeting is from eastern Ontario and is visiting the area for the Brant activities. Ted Krug is a well known wild life and environmental photographer from Parry Sound Ontario. He has traveled around the world with his photography. Ted will be speaking about his adventures and mis-adventures. He will take you on a trip from one polar area to another and visit places and events in between where he has had a host of learning experiences from my subjects, the environment and his equipment.

We will also see the results of the Faces and Places assignment and the slideshow of our field trip to Robert Held glass works.

This is our annual general meeting night. We will have election of officers and we always need new blood on the board, please come out and participate…
After the elections, we will have a black and white presentation by Inge McDonald and a black and white slide show from Wayne Buhr.
We’ll end the evening with a presentation to our photographer of the year, a slideshow of our trip to Milner Gardens and our assignment – All that Glistens

Our own John Critchley, our new Education Director is our speaker for this month.  John has a number of ideas for introducing an education plan for our members.  There will be a number of new thoughts to help us all become better photographers.

Our speakers for our July meeting are two professional award winning photographers, Chris Boar and Tony Puerzer who are also enthusiastic amateur astronomers!   They are the President and Vice President of the Nanaimo Astronomy Society.  The topic for the evening will be ‘Astrophotography…it’s easier than you think…sometimes’

In this presentation Chris and Tony talk about the different types of astrophotography, what type of equipment is needed, and demonstrate what is possible with just a camera and a tripod. If its a clear night there will be an opportunity for some nighttime viewing for club members  through a telescope post meeting.

Chris is owner of CB Photography and specializes in weddings.  Tony operates Bright Idea Photography and handles a wide range of professional subjects.

Following the business portion of the meeting, there will be one slideshow from the Raptor Centre field trip.

Due to the expected strike of the QB Town staff, this meeting has been canceled.

Our speaker for this meeting is Brian Argyle.  Brian is a snowbird who spends his winters in Arizona wandering the desert and taking great photos.  He has recently started offering a photography course at TOSH.  For our meeting, Brian will talk about how he goes about setting up shots for HDR, Panoramas and also Blending and Layer Masking.  Click on the photo to see some of Brian’s earlier work.

We will also hear from Brad, our VP, about the upcoming CAPA course which we are sponsoring and our February 6th event speaker, Rick Hulbert.

There will be three slideshows – the field trip to the QB air show, our July favourites and the Landscape / Panorama assignment from June.

Our speaker for our September meeting is Kerry Dawson from Comox.  Kerry is a professional educator and has taught many members of the Comox club on slideshow techniques.  We will be looking for our members to prepare shows for the November meeting so this is a wonderful opportunity.

Following the club business, we will have slideshows from last month’s canceled meeting and also from the current period.  It will be a busy evening.

Tickets for the Rick Hulbert show in February will be available.

Our speaker for October is former club member Randy Hall.  Randy has developed a style that shows enhanced colours and contrast. When many people think of contrast, they think colours and tones. There can also be contrast in content. An example of this can be seen in some of Randy’s early morning images of Parksville Bay. Towering or threatening clouds can instill the feeling of unrest, while the calm waters of the bay say serenity. “It’s this type of scene, and the incorporation of weather, that interests me the most”.

Following our business portion of the meeting we will see the results of the photographer’s choice assignment and the field trip to Englishman River Falls.

Our November meeting will showcase a number of our member slideshows.  We will have shows from John Critchley, Shelley Harynuk, Wayne Buhr, Brad Powell, Inge McDonald, Deb Kuzbik and Jack Harynuk.  Some are from travels abroad and some are from locales in and about the Island.

After the business of the meeting, we will have a slideshow from the Animals assignment and also one from our fieldtrip to Colliery Dam Park.  Is anyone bringing popcorn?
