At our July meeting, we will be getting excited about the upcoming Lions Gate Nature competition in the fall. We will be showing the DVD production from 2015 that was sent out to us earlier in the year. We’ll have an intro to the show and describe the activities we follow on picking our submissions.

This is a reminder to upload your assignment photos to the member database by the 20th.
On Sunday, July 10th, there is a club outing from Port Alberni to Bamfield on the Frances Barkley. The boat leaves promptly at 8:00 am and returns at approximately 6:15 pm. Please check the website of Lady Rose Marine (click here). Check for directions and review the suggestions for clothing and also the meal services on the boat.
There is limited parking in the vicinity so try to arrange a car pool with other members.
There is plenty of room on board for everyone.

Maffeo Sutton Park is Nanaimo’s signature park overlooking our world famous harbour. The park is a central point along the Harbour Front Walkway. The park hosts countless community special events. It is a great year round destination for walking, playground playdates and picnics. Veiw and map
The Noon Canon will be fired from the Bastion at 12 o’clock precisely, preceded by all the pomp and ceremony Nanaimo can muster.
There’s plenty of parking free parking (up to 3 hours). Main parking lot is off Comox Rd and Cliff Street Nanaimo.
Lunch will be at the Lighthouse Restaurant, 50 Anchor Way, Nanaimo, which next to the float plane departure lounge. NOTE: Lunch is at 12:15, This is to allow you time to shoot the firing of the Noon Canon. Please let Rick (email)know if you’ll be participating in lunch so he can inform the restaurant.
Pick about 6 of the most interesting and size them to within 1600 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high. When you have your field trip photos ready, send them to fieldtrip.opc@gmail.com
This is a reminder to vote for the current assignment. Voting usually starts on the 21st of the month and continues until the 28th of the month. Vote in the member database and check the dates for the specific assignment.
The results came in and our club did very well again this year. We did not place in the top 3, however, Jack Harynuk did place 3rd in the mammal category for his grizzly bear head shot.

As a club we did exceptionally well in 2015 and placed third overall with an honourable mention in mammals and a best of show in birds. The categories are:
Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image. Images have to be uploaded by October 19th.

Our August meeting’s presenter will be our past president, Richard Peeke-Vout. Richard has been organizing our field trip and annual favourite slideshows for over two years. He will present some of the ones he has most enjoyed and will tell us a few of his secrets for how he organizes the images and selects the great music he picks.
We will be looking at the slideshows from our trip to the July outing, the Bamfield outing and the Construction assignment.
We will have coffee, tea and water at the break, bring a loonie!!!
