Shelter Point Distillery website

Shelter Point Distillery is, and always will be, an artisan distillery. Right from the start, the concept has been quality over quantity, coexisting with nature and sourcing locally. This local-first philosophy extends beyond just building materials. In fact, Shelter Point is one of only a handful of distilleries that grow their own barley and distill on the same site. Virtually the only things that aren’t local are our oak barrels, which were sourced from Kentucky bourbon distillers, and the massive copper pot stills which came from Scotland. As far as our methodology goes, well, when you wait five years for a whisky to mature, you can’t help but learn to be patient. As a result, nothing is particularly hurried here. We took our time to get the distillery right, and we’re doing the same with everything else.

Directions:

People who visit us say that the journey is almost as delightful as their stay with us, so please, won’t you stop in? We’re located just south of Campbell River off the “Oceanside Route” or the Old Island Highway that winds its way along the eastern side of Vancouver Island.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park

This month we will be meeting in the lower parking lot at 10:00am to walk the beach and many forest trails. There’s plenty of wildlife, birds and scenery to photograph.

Float Fairies – Keep your eyes open while on the beach or while beach combing  for the glass balls. Over the eight-month period, “float fairies” will be hiding these glass floats along the coast for people to find and keep. Some of the floats will be starred and can be taken to the Parksville Visitor’s Centre to win prizes donated by local merchants. Those without a star can still take their floats to the centre to enter a prize draw.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is located 3 km south of Parksville on Hwy 19a, on central Vancouver Island. Take exit #51 from the Inland Island Highway (Hwy #19) and follow signs to the park. The closest communities are Parksville, Qualicum and Nanaimo.
