Lions Gate Nature Competition – 2017
Sep 1 @ 12:00 am – Nov 1 @ 10:00 pm

We are participating again this year and we’re taking a slightly different approach.  You’ll be able to upload 3 images in any of the categories.  Also, voting will be open until early November and you will be permitted to vote for your own image.   Since only one image per member may be submitted, there will be some additional judging to choose the top 8 images.

As a club we did well in 2016 and placed third  in mammals.  We’ll try to do better this year.

The categories are:

  1. – Birds
  2. – Mammals
  3. – General (not 1 or 2)

Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image.  Images have a maximum width of 1400 pixels and maximum height of 1050 pixels.  Images have to be uploaded by October 21st.

September Meeting
Sep 6 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

September is much like the start of a new year and we’re preparing for our new year. Richard is leading a discussion for everyone

Discussion Points

1. We have no Director of Exhibits. Does this mean Society members do not see the value in exhibiting work in the community? If so how should we promote our work in the community?

2. Online presence for selling photographs. Explore club options. Smugmug etc.

3. Photography competitions – club and open competitions like Lions Gate.

4. Use of technology for exhibiting photography. Liaise with Shaw cable and Lefty’s etc. to show images through their facilities.

5. Should we have a Director of Communications / Public Relations? Is someone willing to step forward?

Lions Gate Nature Competition

Jack will take us through the new approach that we’re following for our participation in the club this year.

Interclub Photo Competition

Jack will introduce selected aspects of an invitational photo competition to be held early in the new year.  The theme, categories and judging aspects are all open for discussion.  Assistance with the planning activities is needed.

Following the coffee break, we will be showing the Lions Gate 2016 show.

Bring your loonie for a coffee.

September field trip
Sep 10 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

We will meet in the main park parking lot,  take the Alberni highway to the Errington turn off, straight past the four way stop and continue on this same road to the park entrance.  You will first see a turn for the campground DO NOT turn there but keep going into the main parking lot for the park.

Situated along the pristine Englishman River north of Nanaimo, Englishman River Falls Provincial Park features two stunning waterfalls cascading along the descending riverbed into a deep canyon. This picturesque destination, set amid a lush old-growth and second-growth forest of Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock and maple, is an ideal location from which to explore and appreciate the incredible of the area.  With the shortage of rain you may see the falls in a way you have never seen before.

There are pathways for very easy and moderate walking.  You can select your own favorite style.

Lunch will be at Trees Restaurant and Bakery  at noon.  The address is 1385 Alberni Highway Parksville (across from the Coop service station and Oceanside Community Church)
