As he says, “Macro photography gives me the ability to photograph at home or away in virtually any light and weather condition. That is one of the reasons it has become my favourite pastime.

August Meeting
Aug 1 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Our speaker for August is former club member and President Randy Hall.  Randy will be talking to us about getting more out of your camera.

Randy is a Vancouver Island photographer, specializing in landscape and nature photography. A past member of the club, he started into a business venture about 5 years ago, taking part in local markets, craft and artisan shows and in 2016, joined TOSH as a resident artist.

Randy’s photography is described as “his interpretation of works of a true master… Mother Nature”. He firmly believes there are several tools involved in digital photography. Postprocessing software is one of those tools. Depending on the raw image and the desired output, its use could be a minor or major component. The camera is considered more important, in that it’s needed to capture the high quality raw material (image) you start with. Most important however, is the person behind the camera and in front of the computer, for imagination and skill.

We will be showing our Favourites from June, our field trip outing and the Lazy Hazy Days assignment.

November Meeting
Nov 7 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Every photograph tells a story; capturing a moment in time in order to preserve and honour it.  A photograph can be a tangible connection to our past, to our family, and to our own unique experience. Dirk Heydemann, our November speaker, is a successful Nanaimo based photographer who specializes in family and corporate photography.

His talk will be going over his family portrait business, from planning, consolations, shooting and presentations and pricing of the art work that is created. Since he took on this approach to his family portrait sessions, his sales had substantial increases in value.

We will be showing our Favourites from October, our field trip outing to Stamp Falls and the “Anything Orange” assignment.

Our meeting will feature a Taz Tally workshop which we have downloaded from Lynda.com.  The workshop is entitled Exploring Composition.  Andy Lessard has offered to guide us through the portions that several club members have found relevant in a Lightroom interest group.

This link is to the document that is Andy’s summary of the course that could be used as a quick reference.

Our speaker Dave Hutchinson had to cancel due to the weather and road conditions.  He has offered to come back in the next few months.

We are pleased to have Dave Hutchison, an Accredited Nature and Pictoral / Scenic Photographer for a seminar on “Beyond the Basics of Wildlife Photography”.  Dave will share his experience from recent trips to The Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, Yellowstone NP, Tetons NP, etc.  Check Dave’s website here.

Topics will include: composition, planning & research, and interactions we have with our equipment and environment.

Photography is a vast field that encompasses a wide variety of techniques to create that unique captivating image. Add to that the complicated camera gear and post processing techniques in today’s technology age.

Dave can help you make efficient use of your time and quickly learn techniques to tap into your creativity, figure out your camera gear, and create wonderful images.

With over 20 years of business experience, Dave has over 40 images published in books, magazines, calendars, art cards, and various gift products. Dave is continuously inspired by both landscape and wildlife photography and has photographed across Western Canada and the Yukon, eight Western US states and recently Europe.

Following another member suggestion we are going to the new Demex Wharehouse.  This is not the Demex store we went to previously but is on Price Road.  You can see it from the Alberni Highway and if coming from Parksville it is just before the Coop gas station.

We have over 20,000 square feet and two floors to explore.  The upstairs is set up with one main large area and several rooms off that area which are decorated in specific themes.

It should be a fun and very interesting

Lunch will be at the Bayside Bistro and Lounge at 12:00pm
