We are participating again this year. Upload your best image, pay close attention to the rules. Voting will be open until early November and you will be permitted to vote for your own image. There may be some additional judging to choose the top 8 images.
The categories are:
Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image. Images have a maximum width of 1400 pixels and maximum height of 1050 pixels. Images have to be uploaded by October 17th.
When the current year rules are prepared, they will be added. Click on the image or here to see the rules
This is a unique opportunity for the photography produced by your members to be judged by some of the best nature photographers in Canada.
Come and join with us as we find photographic treasures at Demxx on the Alberni Highway.
This month we are going to add to our usual photographic event by inviting you to take part in our scavenger hunt.
Each person will be given a list of items or item styles that they can go and look for on site and then take a photo of it as creative as you would like
You don’t have to take part in the scavenger hunt but I think it will add an extra fun twist to our day
Lunch will be at Trees Restaurant on the Alberni Highway (across from the Coop gas station) at noon
Demxx has asked that we don’t have an excessive amount of cars to leave room for customers as well as us. If you could car pool that would be great
Hope to see you all there
This is a reminder to vote for the current assignment. Voting usually starts on the 21st of the month and continues until the 28th of the month. Vote in the member database and check the dates for the specific assignment.
Our speaker this month is Nanaimo photographer, Judy Hancock-Holland. Judy has presented to the club previously and we received excellent feedback about her spiritual approach to her photography. Judy has a new presentation and we are looking forward to her visit. Visit Judy’s website here.
We will be showing our Favourites from September, our field trip outing and the “Fall is in the Air” assignment.
Bring your loonie for a coffee.
The Monthly Management Meeting is normally held on the second Thursday of the month in the boardroom of Qualicum Foods. If any members are interested in attending, please contact the club president.
Fall has come to the Stamp River Falls. Come and join with us as we watch the power of falls and maybe fish climbing up to spawn. Wonderful colors that will be in the area and just so much more to see and photograph. If we are real lucky we may even get to see a black bear fishing
Lunch will be at the Clam Bucket – 4479 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, at noon
I know many of you have been waiting for this event so bring an friend and I hope to see many of you there

Our friends from the Nanaimo club are hosting an all-day event of sharing / learning / friendships. Our experienced and excellent members will teach and share exciting topics.
Presenters 2018:
Each presentation will be 75 minutes except Brad’s, which will be a full morning (covering two time slots). You will be able to choose between presentations. I am attaching the sign-up sheet so you can pick your sessions and let us know.
Every photograph tells a story; capturing a moment in time in order to preserve and honour it. A photograph can be a tangible connection to our past, to our family, and to our own unique experience. Dirk Heydemann, our November speaker, is a successful Nanaimo based photographer who specializes in family and corporate photography.
His talk will be going over his family portrait business, from planning, consolations, shooting and presentations and pricing of the art work that is created. Since he took on this approach to his family portrait sessions, his sales had substantial increases in value.
We will be showing our Favourites from October, our field trip outing to Stamp Falls and the “Anything Orange” assignment.
