There is a $99 special for 24″ X 36″ canvas wrap, giclée prints on a 3/4″ frame. This is for all orders received during the month of October, there is no limit to the number you want to do.

We are doing it again this year, Richard has kindly offered to present our best photos from the year.  He will organize a slideshow for our December social evening.

Please email up to two of your best / favourite images from this past year to bestof2016@oceansidephotographers.ca and include the title for each.

Our projector can accommodate images up to 1900 pixels wide by 1200 high so those are the limits for your images.  Richard would like the images by the end of November to give him ample time to review the submissions, get them organized and select music.

Milner Garden Sunday Hours are from 11:00 to 3:00  NOTICE:  February 12th Field Trip is postponed until February 19th due to snow at Milner Gardens.  Other trip details remain the same.

This months field trip is to Milner Gardens for the early blooms.  Meeting at the gardens at 10:00am.  There is a small charge of $5.25 as an entrance fee. Milner Gardens members and current VIU students with card free admission. Onsite golf cart shuttle for mobility challenged. Garden open 11:00am to 3:30pm, last entry 3:00pm

LUNCH  at 12:00 is at Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf  Course club house, Thalassa Restaurant.

Your field trip photos are now uploaded to the website using the upload in the member database.  Up to 8 images can be uploaded

In keeping with the Wildlife theme for the month, the field trip is to the North Island Widllife Recovery Center.  Located in Errington, BC on Vancouver Island in Canada, the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre is a world class wildlife rehabilitation facility specializing in the rehabilitation of black bears and raptors.

Notes

I’ve written to the NIWRC requesting that a volunteer raptor handler be  present to show  us the birds outside enclosures, so that we might get some unobstructed shots. I’ve yet to hear back as to whether their have managed to find a volunteer. However, I’m excited about the prospects.

Also, there is a small charge for entry to the Center.

Lunch is planned for Cuckoos Restaurant for 12 noon.  Cuckoos is in Coombs at the Old Country Market

Harbour Quay
Location: Port Alberni

The Alberni Harbour Quay features a colourful collection of waterfront shops, galleries, and eateries, and is also where you’ll find the clock tower, which grants panoramic views of the Alberni Inlet.    You will also find the boarding area for the MV Frances Barkley, a passenger and freight vessel that offers scenic journeys to Bamfield and Ucluelet on the west coast. Take a stroll to view the commercial fishing fleet, large shipping vessels and pleasure craft marinas. There’s also a children’s park for families to spend the afternoons.

Lunch:  Will be at the Starboard Grill on the quay at 12:00 noon

The Seaside Cruizers Car Club hosts a weekend of events in Parksville & Qualicum culminating with the Father’s Day Show ‘n Shine in downtown Qualicum Beach. Our Sunday Show ‘n Shine is such a great event it was mentioned on the Oprah Winfrey Show as one of the 10 best things to do on Father’s Day.  During the Show ‘n Shine the whole town is wired for sound and music from the 50’s and 60’

We are participating again this year and we’re taking a slightly different approach.  You’ll be able to upload 3 images in any of the categories.  Also, voting will be open until early November and you will be permitted to vote for your own image.   Since only one image per member may be submitted, there will be some additional judging to choose the top 8 images.

As a club we did well in 2016 and placed third  in mammals.  We’ll try to do better this year. 

The categories are:

1. – Birds
2. – Mammals
3. – General (not 1 or 2)

Look through your shots and be certain there is no ‘hand of man’ in the image.  Images have a maximum width of 1400 pixels and maximum height of 1050 pixels.  Images have to be uploaded by October 21st.
